In Norway, there is a great culture of public art – even in school yards. Mostly figurative art like sculpture, rarely sonic pieces. For a composer, it is a beautiful day when the requests for a comissioned piece comes – and what cuteness overload that my first comissioned piece ever was a 15 sec school bell chime, instrumentation: glockenspiel. There is one piece for each season, and I was asked to make the winter melody. I wanted to sonicly depict a snow crystal and how its complexity develops through a little mosaic of polyrhythms. Hopefully the young kids will internalize the 3 over 4 rhythm by beeing exposed to it several times a day all through primary school and become rhythmic wonders.
